Somehow, this turned out much more awesome than I’d expected. Naturally it’s about as stupid as I expected too, but I didn’t turn it off half way through the episode out of boredom! 

You find homolust in the most unexpected places...

It’s actually pretty funny, which was honestly kind of surprising. I mean, I guess it makes sense given how retarded and out there the premise is but it’s really not that far outside the realm of what’s feasible in a harem show so I wasn’t really sure (I was going into it expecting something unintentionally funny to tell the truth). But it turns out it’s a lot like Inukami, which, although also pretty retarded, was rather enjoyable.

Part of this may just come from the fact that in both series the male lead is voiced by Jun Fukuyama and spends most of the first episode naked (well, he spends most of most episodes naked in Inukami, but that may not persist in Akikan). It’s more tongue-in-cheek than Inukami, which, while being a comedy, was still a pretty straight love story on some level. Akikan is more of a parody of a harem/moe show while still being a harem/moe show (see the last chunk of the episode where it gets slightly SRS). I dunno how long this will continue to be entertaining, but if nothing else the first episode’s pretty decent on it’s own.
