Kuroshitsuji ep20

So, I’ve got no idea what’s going on right now and I really don’t care since it’s not like the plot is all that important or worth paying attention to in Kuroshitsuji anyway. I lol’d at how the Wangs of Kuroshitsuji got offed this week too though.

Anyway, naturally the best parts of the episode were Sebastian getting the shit beaten out of him and Ciel being a badass:

There was a lot of QUALITY in this episode but it was also counterbalanced by some really really nice shots. As usual, Kuroshitsuji’s strong point is closeups, particularly faces.

Whoever’s doing whatever the anime equivalent of “lighting director” is for this show is amazing (I know, I say this just about every time I post about this show, but I’m still not over it). Even in some really QUALITY shots I was still impressed that there’s actual directionality and color differences in the shadows depending on lighting conditions rather than just generic anime shadows. It doesn’t seem like it should be so impressive, but I haven’t really noticed “variable lighting” or whatever you wanna call it being used so effectively in other shows–especially the way they use color in this series (should be fucking easy to do with digital animation too–it’s not like they have to mix a whole new batch of paints for the cels anymore–I don’t know why more studios don’t bother with it).

^And this shot just made me nearly fall out of my chair laughing. Ciel’s got such a bored expression on his face… Also, Sebastian skating on a cannon ball while holding Ciel just about killed me.

  2. this reminds me. I must start catching up on this show again.

  3. It was a good episode. I was rather taken aback by how Ciel was taking what happened to Aberline.
