NT May

Busy/lazy so this took longer than usual (and I’m not even done yet). I should have the last little chunk done shortly and then there’s all the other mags this month Animedia/mage and PASH (might be a little later depending on how my homework goes this evening). I skipped stuff like page/illustration descriptions as usual.

P34-5 4 Meisters Talk

–Your mental state as the finale approached–

Miyano
• Really lonely. Lonely.

Miki (Responding to Miyano’s remark)
• Because 4 people was a lot.

Kamiya
• I was feeling cowardly. Well, I felt relieved. {er… I dunno, there are no verbs here}

Yoshino
• There’s a strong sense that it’s not over yet. The first and second seasons had a clear objective, but now there’s a sense that I don’t know what I should be doing. While waiting can be fun, it’s also stressful.

Miki (Responding to Yoshino’s remark)
• Because right now we still can’t see our footing. For he same reason I’m happy, I’m stressed.

–Your expectations about the movie–

Miki
• I wanna see it soon. Then all my work will be done and I’ll be happy (lol)
Because I know recording is hard.

Miyano
• I’m really excited. But because CB must need a reason to resume its activities, it’s difficult to think of that.

Kamiya
• I’m interested in seeing if new Gundam will appear. I’m looking forward to the movie’s new machines.

Yoshino
• I hope the movie will have a similar feel to the TV series. If it’s a work that I/we can present as strong and steady, I’ll be happy.

After this Miyano said “What’ll we do if it’s a story about future generations?”
Then Miki said “They’ll say things like: Dad, I’ll snipe it too! “
Then Kamiya said “Who’s child is that! (lol)”

The cast each made comments about the characters they played.
Miyano commented about Setsuna “He told Bushido to live and so on, Setsuna thinking that living was an important idea was his first big change”

P36-7 Messages from the main staff and an interview with Kuroda.

Kuroda’s interview was very interesting. Just the parts that caught my attention.

• The way I thought I’d present 00 was to tell as much of the [story] as I could until the last scene of the TV [series]. I don’t mean to say it’s because there’s a movie. When the movie was decided upon, we already had a character with a long life-span (lol) {er… I dunno}

• Because 00 is an ensemble drama, [thinking] we could resolve everything absolutely clearly would be hubris. Allelujah continues to be burdened by his deeds and Louise and Saji continue to think about the reasons they fought. I wrote that I thought that whether the resolution that the characters were [still] struggling along in the last episode is the right one should be up to the viewer.

• To me (Kuroda), CB is something like the “Shinsengumi”
As time passed, the Shinsengumi came to be spoken about as a [group of a] particular kind of hero. If you think about it practically, they {CB} were a criminal organization, but in a thousand years time that impression might change. On the other hand, like Ribbons, there might be people who would agree with the idea that “a superior and immortal dictator would make the world a safer place.”
But before jumping to that kind of conclusion, realizing what’s going on in other, far away countries, thinking about the way we live, are we really that important?

• If you want a happy ending, you can only have one episode. But, because the problem isn’t that simple, it took 50 episodes to get from the beginning of change to the resolution.

• The TV series [took] one of two ending patterns that we’d been thinking about since the beginning. Since in the TV series the first idea was used, the movie will use “that earlier [one].” From here on, I’m eagerly looking forward to getting started. (lol)

    Gundam Unicorn movie….

  2. /Since in the TV series the first idea was used, the movie will use “that earlier [one].”/

    No I really can’t wait.

  3. “When the movie was decided upon, we already had a character with a long life-span”

I recall seeing a translation on /m/ that said that said that, because of the movie, they gave a character a longer life span. Basically, they were gonna kill someone off, but when they were told there’d be a movie, they decided not to.

    • >Basically, they were gonna kill someone off, but when they were told there’d be a movie, they decided not to.

I just browsed through the text in the blog and from what I can read, there’s no confirmation that they were going to kill someone off and decided otherwise because there’s a movie. On the other hand, there is confirmation that Louise was supposed to be killed initially, but they didn’t push through with it.

What I think the text said is that Kuroda wanted to finish as much as he could of the story in the last episode, but the reason he didn’t finish it is not just because there is a movie. It’s because there’s a character that *just* has long life, and at this point, he laughed because IMO he was hinting at Ribbons, the “God” of the show, therefore you can’t kill him that easily. There seem to be many stuff in the magazines that question Ribbons’ death, so…

      • Yeah, that’s basically the impression I got. That Ribbons’ (and/or possibly Setsuna’s–that statement could be in the plural too) long lifespan and whatnot were factors of the original story and had nothing to do with the movie per-say. Kuroda also mentioned that with such a huge cast thinking they could tie everything up perfectly is just crazy and that, again, the decision about the movie had little to do with leaving some things hanging.

      • Ah, grand, thanks for the clarification!

      • Kuroda: “If you think about it practically, they {CB} were a criminal organization”

I wish this had been more highlighted in the show. My respect for Kuroda just rose, it is good to see somebody willing to tell the truth.

        @mai

“there is confirmation that Louise was supposed to be killed initially, but they didn’t push through with it.”

Which was a bad decision in my opinion. But they might kill her in the movie then?

  4. Just a heads up, full Mizushima/Kuroda interview here:
    http://randal.blog91.fc2.com/blog-entry-777.html
I think it’d be more interesting to read than just summaries.

    • Oh neat, thanks.

  5. Very interesting. I’m looking forward to this. As long as they leave Saji and Louise out of this, and let them have their happy end as seen at the end of the series, I’m okay. No more drama for them, please kthx.

  6. Please, somebody can translate the full interview?

  7. I hope they will be alot of character deaths in the movie…….I want my matrydom ending…….I can forgive the survival of all CB’s character at the end of S2 if it happens then.

Fine, just make a good one.I hope more things about Aeolia can be explained if they aren’t explain before then by supllementaries.
