That outfit is a bit ridiculous. I mean, peacock feathers? Seriously? Mask is cool though.

I really wasn’t expecting the Head/Takuto confrontation this episode. That scene was awesome.

So is there going to be a Cybody fight next episode because it looks like Head actually apprivoises it, but he can’t lose it that quickly given its role in the last episode. He certainly looks happy to have a Cybody again.

So, why did Sugata betray Takuto and Wako? Because right now, I hope he gets rewarded as a traitor deserves. It’d be funny if he was somehow punished to never be able to leave the island like how the maidens are.

Looks like Keito confesses to Sugata or something next episode and he may well respond. Which is odd given that he has had little to no contact with her for a relationship to come up like this possibly.

    • I don’t think he betrayed them based on the sort of stuff he was saying/doing this week. I really think he’s in cahoots with Keito to take out Head since the Crux can probably help to revive Samekh safely.

      • Nox said:

But why he even needs Samekh is what confuses me. Sinpathy is the only Warrior left aside from Tauburn. If Takuto can take it out, with Sugata’s help even, that’d pretty much be it.

I guess there is the chance they could just keep reviving the Cybodies though, but it just feels a bit stupid on his part. Of course, the fact we already know Head’s going to hijack him might be affecting my judgement since that makes his actions here him pretty much handing Samekh over to Head.

        • Data said:

Remember that Takuto said he would take out all of the Cybodies? I think Sugata thinks that’s a fantastic idea, and by all he means ALL.

          • Nox said:

So he plans to revive Samekh just to let Takuto destroy it again? Why not just leave it as is?

    • kargarus said:

@ Nox I couldn’t reply directly below for some reason.

It’s a trap! Sugata wants to revive Samekh because the whole system needs to be destroyed.

Him and Keito are in cahoots, Sugata plans to get rid of the whole system so Wako and him can be free. And Takuto is the key. Gawd I can’t wait to watch this ep!

      • Nox said:

Well, that’s likely one of the goals they have with this.

I think it just seems like a big risk to essentially do precisely what Head wants. If Keito does know his plans, then she knows he wants Samekh. I guess they may just be confident they can surprise him and everything, though we know that isn’t going to work.

        • kargarus said:

You’re right, it is big risk and yes they’ll be playing into Head’s hands, but Sugata is determined either way.

I think Takuto’s the deal breaker in how it plays out – he’ll pull some crazy move or something

          • Nox said:

I think if they at least had let Takuto in on what was going on that might help, though he’d probably be resistant to the notion.

Well, he’s a wild card though I’m not sure if Sugata and Keito are really planning on him having much of a role in what they plan to do.

      • Kay said:

Can’t reply directly either, but I agree with you, Kargarus. I don’t think he join the crux becaust he didn’t trust Takuto to do the job, but because he trusts Takuto enough at this point to pull this.
He noticed Takuto will get stronger every time he fight. He’s been serious in training Takuto. He pushed Wako and Takuto together, kind of want to make sure she’ll be save even if he’s gone, may be. And then go to revive Samekh to have them destroyed by Takuto. Everything he did in the past episodes kind of click.

But, man, that was the most fabulously riduculus outfit out of the whole crux. And I thought Kou and Madoka’s are unbearble. Sugataaaaaa~~!!!

It fits with the show, though.

        • one.eyed.jimmy said:

You all keep saying “revive Samekh just to destroy him”. Remember, whoever started all this *couldn’t* destroy Samekh, they just sealed him away and left him for someone capable of defeating him (see: Tales of Phantasia, Futurama’s Garbage Ball, etc)

    • rightofleft said:

That outfit certainly exceeded my expectation with those feathers and sparkle on his crotch.

Personally I was a little disappointed by the scene. It didn’t really give me that much impact, I guess I was expecting something like Star Wars reunion.

Judging by their conversation during the bath scene I’m pretty sure Takuto finally defeated Sugata in their practice. But again, even when Sugata agree to let go of Wako entirely and officially acknowledge Takuto and Wako as item Takuto still failed to finish Sugata off. I’m guessing Sugata is getting a bit worry about the possibility that Takuto might die because he won’t finish off his opponents, even for the sake of Wako as demonstrated multiple times in the past episodes.

Or maybe it’s like what kargarus has pointed out. He wants to destroy the whole Crux system and in order to achieve that he has to become Emperor. Maybe that’s going to happen next episode. We will see Sugata assume to role of Emperor for few seconds only to disband the Crux. Or knowing that Samekh is the source why Crux existed in the first place he wants Takuto to destroy it to cease any attempts to revive it in the future? Though I still can’t understand why he seemed happy to learn about it was possible to revive Cybody back in episode 13.

I want to say Keito is doing whatever she’s doing for the sake of Takuto as well. Else it doesn’t really explain her flashback scenes about Takuto in the past episodes.

I wonder if Wako and Takuto will notice the addition of new member in the Crux and the disappearance of Sugata in Zero Time with them next episode. Not that it really matters since there’s only one more episode after next week :(

      • Nox said:

It probably had to do with how it sort of came out of no where and pretty causally too. Neither party seemed to be shocked or anything either, which may have diminished some of the impact.

That would be a logical reason for him to be doing this and was especially apparent this episode where he probably could have ended it quickly had he targeted the Drivers. Another factor may be Wako’s seal as I’m not sure Takuto would be willing to break it, unless there is some way to get rid of this whole system without being necessary to break hers at least.

He could turn all focus away from Takuto to reviving Samekh. I’d be surprised if he did anything like breaking up the Crux so quickly though. It’d seem more appropriate to do so after they’ve crushed Head’s plans and until then to just lead everyone along.

Wasn’t it stated by Sarina that there isn’t any known way to destroy Samekh, which was why it was sealed? Of course, Sugata might not have picked up on the subtext there.

Perhaps there’s a part of him that really does want the power of Samekh despite whatever good intentions he may have?

Wouldn’t that sort of be unlikely since it’s been implied that she’s been up to this whole plan for some time now or at least that was the way I’ve been reading her earlier actions and such, though it’s possible she just recently had this idea to use Samekh to take down Head.

Maybe the scenes are meant to imply she’s steadily not considering Takuto as an enemy anymore unlike earlier?

If they saw him and didn’t realize it was him, I’d be very disappointed in them. He wouldn’t be near them when it happened anyway so they’d have to know.

I’m really thinking that next episode is going to end with us in Zero Time, with Head in Sinpathy and Keito’s seal broken at the end. The last shot could be Samekh looming over everyone. The only thing against that is how every episode has been somewhat standalone in a sense with no cliffhangers or anything.

        • kargarus said:

          @ rightofleft @Nox
after watching it yeh the punch was definitely downplayed, but I kinda liked it. Shows Takuto’s not stupid. I can imagine in another anime, it’d be a big deal. Star Driver’s cool because the stuff it overplays (outfits, FABULOUSNESS etc) is done so deliberately but not necessarily the scenes we’ve almost been conditioned to think will be overplayed, like Father/Son reunion are overplayed. Dunno if that makes ANY sense.

Anyway, with Keito – I think that yes she’s not thinking Takuto’s so bad, and this plays into her team up with Sugata. Keito wants Sugata, that’s her main motive I think. Sugata wants Wako protected, the trio safe. So if Sugata can ensure Keito’s ‘betrayal’ of Head to help him end the system (somehow, I know it’s not clear cut), then they both get what they want. That is, after everything Sugata does indeed end up with Keito. Heck there is still the chance he might be gay, haha.

They’ll screw Head over I reckon, but not without difficulties or a fight!!

          • rightofleft said:

At this point I’m not really sure if Keito and Sugata are working together yet. I mean sure she did confess she’s East Maiden and Ivrogne. But I don’t think she has fully explained herself until next episode. Which would mean Sugata is acting on only those two facts with no knowledge of what Keito is up to. That kind of surprises me since I don’t think he would act so quickly without fully understand what’s going on.

          • Nox said:

No, I see what you’re saying I think. I actually liked the scene where they presented the painting and immediately, and without much shock, deduced it was by Head and that he was in the Crux which Takuto had already guessed.

It also implied that Takuto had been looking for his father, but that we simply never saw any of it. Takuto was pretty matter-of-fact with his father I thought. He punched him just like he intended to and told him to stop screwing around. He also didn’t seem interested in explanations, but then I doubt he would have accepted any excuses. Not that Head would have given any.

Yeah, Sugata’s her main objective I think. Going by the preview, I’m guessing she makes some sort of confession which surprises Sugata going by his expression.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sugata stops her from kissing him or something either. This would be rather sudden for him and I don’t think he’d want to lead her on. He might even question just a bit some of her actions.

I’d sort of like if they weren’t together by the end since it would seem a bit quick. Given some time though, that would seem fine.

I’m just rather curious as to what Keito wants aside from crushing Head’s plans and getting Sugata, if anything at all.

Takuto will end up screwing Head over. They’ll try and maybe even succeed a bit before Head uses Sinpathy.

        • rightofleft said:

Tauburn’s “unknown potential” is probably going to be a key part for the finale. Since both vice and Sarina have stated that even they have no idea what Tauburn is capable of then again I don’t think Sugata is aware of that either.

          • Nox said:

Mayhap he’s somehow counting on Takuto in that regard? Though it wouldn’t exactly seem like Sugata to put things on the line for such a chance.

I’m really curious how Tauburn will respond to combat with Samekh and it would seem appropriate for another new power to show up. Perhaps its full potential realized.

I suppose there are some similarities then than I thought. Would that make Shing a counterpart to Takuto?

            > gives keepsake memento of mom to lead heroine
            > star/galaxy theme up the wazoo

i could also mention more general things like similarities in hair, popularity with the ladies, naive niceguy attitude, etc. etc.

          • Nox said:

That’s actually somewhat hilarious and I’m curious if they’re fully aware of the similarities or not.

The only thing that would make it perfect would be if they had the same VA, though Shing’s did voice the main in another mecha anime.

Can Takuto be described as naive though?

  15. iRENDU said:

Hmm, Sugata’s talking about love in the very beginning of episode is quite surprising. Saying “is it a desire of embrace or a desire to control” while remembering of Keito… And later his maidens said, that his portrait have “unpleasant libido … desire to control the subject”. ENOKIIIIIDO.

    • Kay said:

That was interesting. I think that portrait is Head’s image of Sugata he has is his mind. He thinks every Star Drivers are power-hungry, and Sugata is the same type of person as him, ambigious, and want to control thing. Like how Head want to control Fish girl by locking her in a cage.

He’s said it before. There’s some image he wanted to draw, and he thought Sugata was borned for the role. By now I think he has it all wrong.

Judding from the maids’ comment, there’s a posibility that Sugata noticed this, and played along with Head’s image of him to his own gain. If that’s the case, I’m waiting to see whose “Just as planned” would be more fabulous.

      • Nox said:

Yeah, it would seem to either be representative of Sugata’s desires and emotions or a reflection of how Head thinks, his painting showing more of his own personality rather than Sugata’s.

Perhaps Sugata was even a bit disturbed by what he saw in that painting as you say and is playing that image up.

If Head’s hijacking involves taking over Sugata’s body as was implied, then the painting could also be foreshadowing in a sense of how Head will be once HE is Sugata in a sense.

I’d imagine Sugata and Keito would pull one only to have Head counter them completely.

    • Kay said:

Also, how Sugata pondered about what love is could linked back to Enokido’s interview back then.
He said romantic love was not something Sugata gives high value of, which is kinda understandable given how he grew up.

He’s living with maids who were ordered to kill him if he leave. Benio’s been trying to own him. What’s Keito doing is still in grey zone, but’s she’s doing it without telling him. Wako’s continuously “don’t” since episode 1 could also counted.

I’m sure they love and care for him, but you could say they lean more on the desire to control than the desire to embrace. And Sugata seems to experienced this kind of love a lot that he starts to wonder what exactly is love.

This also fit with Head’s desire to control. He care for Fish girl, but he only know how to lock his precious thing in a cage. If the PSP game’s hints were reliable.

  16. Dai said:

Again they put something new in op/ed. This time in ending, the last scene when they show everyone with the main trio in front and the STAR DRIVER letters are showing. In last seconds camera zoom at Sugata – this wasn’t there in ep.22.

    • anon said:

There was some green shit around the episode today and that green shit sometimes would disappear or come back, the zoom effect is just gg hiding that green shit.

I have to say, I love that scene with Head in the preview. That may be the most excited I’ve ever seen him in the show.

  18. Hyper Shinchan said:

It was somehow interesting that a lot of lines are present in the game as well (at least I’ve noticed Tetsuya and George saying that they’re Benio’s knights, Ryosuke teasing Head’s fear of regeneration and Head mocking his father teachings). And it could be that I’ve lost some other lines.

  19. Silence said:

I literally said FUCK out loud when Head started talking to Takuto. Shit.

  20. bahutmut said:

‘Movie!’ can be marked as well, even though its just 1 lonely takuto

  21. Nox said:

Sugata’s question to Wako on their date seemed a bit ominous with if they could still all hang out together or not. I’m taking that as a bit of foreshadowing that a Trio end isn’t very likely or that after this Sugata probably drifts away from the two of them.

Or Quartet ending with Keito joining the group maybe since she could also renew her friendship with Wako. I kind of like that one actually.

    • Kay said:

I like that, too. Bets Sugata and Keito will be the evil friends who prank Takuto and Wako a lot. Come to think of it, these two fit well together character-wise. They seem the type to dead-pan the joke and exchange the smirk while leaving their victim confused. :D

      • Nox said:

Sounds a bit mean-spirited and they don’t exactly come across as the kind of people to do that sort of thing for kicks. They are rather prone to joking though.

        • Kay said:

I may convey the meaning wrong. I meant it in a light heart spirit with some twist, not really a serious evil prank.

          • Nox said:

They could all go back and forth with one another with little things.

Maybe they could form a band as well like some of those images indicated for the game. Doubtful we’d see that copied though.

    • Silence said:

I’d like a quartet ending! That way everyone is happy. Takuto and Sugata continue to be bros, Wako and Keito become close again, and Takuto/Sugata both get a waifu.

      • Nox said:

Yeah, I’m sort of considering that a best case scenario at the moment.

Going from that added description of 24, I wonder if Wako will actually approach Keito regarding her relationship with Takuto. It could prove interesting since she’s the only member of the trio Keito hasn’t really interacted with and where there seems to be the most tension.

Also, why the ef haven’t they been playing keito’s song for the fights. We only got it in the first 2 eps of the arc. grrrr.

    • Nox said:

Maybe they haven’t been playing it partly because there haven’t been as many fights along with perhaps being a reflection on how private she tends to be regarding her singing?

      • theflow said:

meh they found reason to have mizuno on a bus, and after 2 arcs we’ve been conditioned to expect a maiden singing to intro zero time. I miss it. Granted, zero time battles in 3rd arc are far different from the others, but needs more keito singing.

okay, that scene with keito blushing while telling sugata she was east maiden, and then the next ep preview, i’m totally JELLY. Ketio <3

        • Nox said:

It would seem doubtful to hear her now unless she’s singing when Sugata shows up. We could always get a duet of Wako and Keito in the last episode maybe.

          • theflow said:

I’m still holding out for the all 4 maidens sing together in the last episode. I will swoon if this happens.

Also, such an awesome episode so haven’t bothered to criticize, but WHY NO HENSHIN FOR THE TRIO? AND NO GATTAI? HOW COULD YOU?

          • Nox said:

That’d be very cool, yes. I could see them all coming back in the end, though not sure on the chances of singing.

They’re already in outfits, so the don’t need to change? I was actually expecting them to do that at some point, but maybe they just aren’t capable of such a thing.

  23. theflow said:

on the subject of motive and such, i’ll chime in and say it looks a lot like this ep sugata was preparing takuto to destroy samekh to me. Hence the you need to deal the finishing blow bit. If you win, you get wako = if you defeat samekh = have to deal the finishing blow to me.

Sugata was reassured after the painting bit, when takuto said he’d take whatever comes. The date kinda seems like a last chance thing, like i’m giving you to takuto after, so we should go out at least once lol. He even told her to go out w/ takuto after, so it wasn’t like he was trying to one-up takuto or anything.

Benio swooning was expected, but no reaction from Midori? DISAPPOINT.

also GEORGE. CAME. OUT. OF. THE. ROOM. I actually thought that one would have a good chance for bingo.

    • one.eyed.jimmy said:

I think we have to take what Suagata said during the duel literally: if Takuto defeats him (as Samekh’s Driver), he can take Wako away from the island because there wouldn’t be anything left for the Maidens to guard against.

    • Nox said:

That’d be rather sad if that was the case and it does make sense. I’d always like to see Takuto opt for some third option and not be forced to actually take Sugata out, but maybe not.

That seems like a good explanation for this. I’m not entirely convinced Takuto would really give in and take Sugata out though, which I’d think Sugata would realize.

I’m actually rather curious about the others in the Crux. Benio will still be in and George and Tetsuya will stick around so long as she does. It’s Adult Bank and Midori I’m wondering about, though perhaps they won’t do anything but stick around.

Yeah, too bad we lost that square. Still, I liked the scene with him and Tetsuya. They really didn’t get much screen time after the first two episodes.
