Bored, so I made a Pingo card template. Couldn’t think of anything to fill it up with that wasn’t spoilers though. Might be easier to do a per-episode sort of thing at this stage in the game. But anyway, template for anyone who has ideas already:

And here’s a nice transparent destiny stamp to mark off squares:

Previous Chapter
: Volume 2 Chapter 1 – Life and Death

Even less edited than the last chapter I posted. I’m really getting lazy… Anywho, some of the prose in this section is especially bad because I’m lazy and terrible as usual. I’ll try to fix it later.

Chapter 2: The Realm of the Gods

Thus, the goddess Hannahanna used the means she had reserved. She called forth several, no several hundred, several thousand bees and she said, “Your bodies are small and nimble, go forth as swift as light and seek out the god Telepinu. Now go.”

(The Legend of Telepinu. From “Mesopotamian Legend.” Yajima Fumio. Chikumashobou.) [1 - I couldn't find this in English, so I just straight translated from the Japanese] Read More

Finally got this finished. I’m gonna try to do a tag-team thing with someone from /a/ to see if we can catch up to the show (they’re working on chapter 2 right now)––unlike No. 6 this is doable with Penguin Drum because of how closely the anime follows the novel, btw. Anyway, took forever because lol attention span and even though page-count wise it’s not any longer than an average No. 6 chapter, word-count wise (of the TL) it’s like 2x as long.

I did a quick once-over, but not a proper edit. I would refrain from posting, but I’ve been looking at it so long I just kind of want to get it up. I’ll go back and fix shit later (plz2pointout dumb errors if you spot them).

[EDIT] Made some corrections. Thank you commenters!

<< Previously: Prologue.

Chapter 1

The house we live in was built in a not-so-bad part of town. It’s a little single-family bungalow––a remnant of a bygone era. Under the simple, dull red roof, next to the old wooden sliding-door to the foyer, is a bright red mailbox. Just a little bit of laundry fills up the narrow yard along the side of the wall covered blue, yellow, green and pink painted siding. Thankfully, the yard is bordered by a vacant lot. Since there’s only some playground equipment in it, on sunny days like this, the living room is filled with warm light. I think, warm, bright, direct sunlight must be good for you. Read More

I’m still way behind in the novel, but I confirmed enough of the details of these that I’m convinced they’re legitimate. These are pretty serious spoilers so read at your own risk, Penguinbros! (the fact that I’m bothering to obscure them at all should give you a clue as to how spoilery this shit is)

Previous Chapter
: Volume 1 Chapter 5 – The City Wrapped In Light

This volume opens with a map of the city.

Also, lol, switched back to No. 6 because Penguin novel is a real novel and that means it’s taking forever. This is completely unedited but I’m tired of looking at this chapter so here you go. I might fix it later but idk, lol. ––Oh yeah, I don’t mean that I’m dropping the Penguin Drum novel, just that I don’t think I have any hope of catching up with the show so I’m going to take my time with it.

[EDIT] Dear /a/, plz2lrn the difference between light novels, young adult novels and novel-novels:

  • Light novels: 90% dialogue; low text density (yes, text density, not page count); simple vocabulary, but occasionally (slightly) more complicated grammar; LN is not a content descriptor.
  • YA novels: medium text density; more narration-heavy, but there’s still a lot of dialogue (I’d put it at 50-60% in No. 6); relatively simple, formulaic grammar + some complicated words; more teen/tween oriented content.
  • Proper novels: high text density; narration-heavy (in my limited experience it’s usually like 25% or less of a given chapter); possibility of much more complicated grammar and vocabulary, but obviously it varies a lot depending on style and reading level; content varies since, like LN, “proper novel” is not a description of content, just format.

Previous Chapter: Chapter 4 – Unending Terror

And finally, the last chapter in the first volume! I’ve already got the next 4, so unless I’m plagued by the same level of unproductive slowpokedness that made this chapter take forever (even though it’s really fucking short), the first chapter of volume 2 should be done next week. Hastily edited because I’m tired of working on this chapter.

Also, in anime-related news. The VAs for Shion and Mouse have been announced: Kaji Yuuki and Hosoya Yoshimasa respectively.

Chapter 5: The City Clad in Light

After they ate, Mouse placed the petri dish and a pair of tweezers in front of Shion.

“I pulled this out of you. Open the lid and take a look. It might be in your field of expertise.”

“My field of expertise?”

In the dish was a black cord, about an inch long. I tried to grab it with the tweezers. He could just make out traces of a thin membrane on before a mass of black, gooey, melted-looking liquid. Read More

Previous Chapter: Chapter 3 – Run for Your Life

This is a bit more hastily edited than other chapters because I’m being an impatient faggot today and breaking my don’t-look-at-it-for-a-day-and-then-edit rule. inb4 it reads better than the other chapters anyway, lol. Also, there’s only one more chapter in this volume and it’s pretty short. Maybe I can get it done this weekend, lol.

Chapter 4: Unending Terror

The flowing sewage was deeper and moving faster than I’d thought. Unidentifiable pieces of matter floated before my eyes. Occasionally they’d stick to my goggles and obstruct my vision. And there was this strange smell I’d never smelled before. Mixed into the rotten smell was something was a thick sweet smell and something caustic smelling. In the brown, polluted water, it was difficult to follow Mouse swimming ahead of me. More than anything else, breathing was difficult. My heart was pounding. My chest was tight and aching. Read More

Previous Chapter: Chapter 2 – Quiet Beginnings

This really shouldn’t have taken this long considering that I had the TL done on Wednesday, but I derped around on editing. Anyway, this was also the longest chapter page-count-wise though it’s not that much longer than the other two in terms of TL wordcount.

Chapter 3: Run for Your Life

He put his ID card into the park management office’s key sensor. The door opened without a sound and at the same time the room’s air purification and temperature control system started up. No one was in the office. It was rare for Yamase not to be in by now. Shion flipped the park’s control system switch. His daily work was beginning. Read More

The whole site’s been revamped. A trailer’s been added (the intro is part of it, but to see the full thing it’s under Special). Shion and Mouse are voiced in the trailer, but idk who their VAs are (not on the character pages yet). Staff’s been updated with some details too (at least, I think this is new, I only remember Bones being listed for the anime staff beyond original character design before):

Director: Nagasaki Kenji
Series Composition:  Minakami Seishi
Original Character Design: toi8
Character Design: Ishino Satoshi
Music: Suzuki Keiichi

Anyway, it looks good to me so far. Shion probably has white hair in the new splash because of whatever’s about to go down in the next chapter (I’m only like 2 pages in atm, but I dunno why Shion would be the MC is he had nothing to do with the ~weird powers~ they’ve been hinting at existing).
